2020 is for sure a special year. As we’ve stated before, with the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of work from home all over the world, we have seen an increasing number of people using DWService. So we had fun looking at our statistics.
DWService is used in more than 200 countries
All over the planet, people are making use of DWService to access or control their remote machine. In fact, since January 1st, we have recorded users in 206 countries ! The United States come first and account for nearly 15% of the global traffic. This is the reason why, in order to offer a great stable connection, we have already set up three nodes over there located in Los Angeles (California), Dallas (Texas) and Chicago (Illinois).
DWService is also quite popular in South America, and especially in Brazil which makes more than 10% of our worldwide traffic. Local users can rely on a node located in Chapecó. With 9.29% of global DWService usage, France is third on the list. Therefore, it’s also the first European country in our charts. Italy, Spain and Poland respectively come on the 4th, 5th and 6th place.
It is interesting to note that even though DWService is being used all over the world, English is by far the most preferred language : it has been set up by 27.04% of our total users. Spanish comes second with a rate at 9.95%. For the reminder, DWService is available in 23 languages thanks to our wonderful community members who take the time to translate the project.
How do you access DWService ?
The power of DWService is that you do not need to install anything on your local computer in order to access your remote machine(s). A simple web browser is enough. And when it comes to web browsers, Chrome remains the king of the market. Unsuprisingly, at DWService, we note that it’s been used by more than 56% of our userbase since the beginning of the year. Firefox comes second (19,33%) and Microsoft Edge is third (9,40%).
Three quarters of our users access DWService from a Windows machine. Interestingly enough, macOS (7.12%) and Linux (7.15%) are quite tight but far behind !
We have recently optimized DWService to make it more responsive and more usable on mobile. Nearly 10% of all the connections have been made from a mobile device – 6% come from Android. Stay tuned, we will soon have more to share soon on mobile developement !
